THE WELL-FED WRITER

In less than four months, Peter Bowerman built a lucrative
"paying-all-the-bills" commercial writing practice:
writing for businesses, large and small and for hourly
rates of $50-$125+ (and did so with NO industry contacts,
previous paid writing experience or writing training.

No, this isn't a huge course on how to get rich writing.
It's a reality story, condensed in a book that teaches
you how to do the same. For less than $20, grab the
know-how that many pay hundreds of dollars to learn.

THE WELL FED WRITER

As an author of five published books who has relied on a wide
variety of people and resources for help in writing and marketing,
I can say Peter Bowerman's "Well-Fed" books represent a high
quality of professionalism and contain invaluable advice. I have
frequently sponsored Peter at writing seminars and conferences
where he remains in hot demand because he is both knowledgeable
and personable. His books are easy to read and their concepts
are well explained. I consider these books a must for my personal
library and recommend them to all of us who are in the writing
profession, whether those who are beginners or those "well-seasoned."

=====

YOU KNOW MORE THAN YOU KNOW

I can't count the number of times I've sat down to write one
of these editorials and gone half nuts trying to come up with
new material. After all, I've been doing this for ten years
this month. Wow.

But I invariably come up with a new idea, relying upon emails,
blogs, newsletters, headlines and the wildlife in my yard to
spark a thought.

And I'm constantly amazed.

I'm amazed at how the simplest, thrown-together editorial can
merit so many comments and kudos. Sometimes the ones I sweat
blood over just roll off people without response.

We take for granted what we know. Because we think an idea is
common doesn't necessarily mean it is common to the rest of
the world.

So many times I write about whatever happened to me that week.
Not everyone has chickens. I've learned so much from my birds,
and they are entertainment and relaxation rolled into one.
People have written me from all walks of life talking about
their chickens now, the ones they had as a child, those on
their grandparents' farm, and those they wish they had. So many
folks have told me how lucky I was to have chickens. Who'd have
guessed that barnyard birds would strike a chord with so many
people?

You know what the trick is? It's making the commonplace seem
otherwise through the creative use of your words. How do
writers write about everyday topics like cooking, babies,
travel, car repair, dogs, saving money, even housecleaning yet
sell their stories to major magazines?

Style, angle and voice.

The good writer can take any topic, mundane or otherwise,
and spin it. Humor sells anything. So does taking a normal
subject and turning it on its head, using a unique twist or
an opposite stance.

So many times people write me saying how they know little and
have no experience. Everyone has experience. Your life's snippets
and knowledge have potential.

Maybe you've been rejected attempting to write about those
ideas. It wasn't the ideas, trust me. It was simply the wrong
style, angle or voice. Crank out a cracker-jack view of an
elementary idea, and you'd be surprised at how quick it's
snatched up. I call them zinger moments. I can feel them.
The ideas pop and crackle with originality. And they sell.

WORDS OF SUCCESS

"There is no cure for birth and death save to enjoy the

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SUCCESS OF THE WEEK
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello Hope,

I just read your editorial CREATE YOUR LOCAL BOOK MARKET
(in March 7, 2010 TOTAL FundsforWriters) and wanted to let
you know about my newest writing project. Just last week I
received a contract to write a 100-year anniversary book on
the Oklahoma National Stockyards. The timeframe is short,
only about a month, but so is the word count at about 15K.
There will be a lot of pictures which will all be chosen and
formatted by the design people, so while their work will
continue long past March, mine will be done and I'll be ready
to move on to the next project.

Thought I'd give you kudos on the timing of your editorial--
at least in my case.

Sincerely,
Joan Rhine

Write for Teens, are You Serious?

By Ruth Schiffmann

If you're over the age of twenty-five, chances are you remember
your teen years with fondness. Ah, the days of football games,
proms, and pep rallies. Do we really forget the hours spent
agonizing over wearing the right outfit, the tears spilled in
the restroom over a hastily scrawled break-up note, or the
searing pain of finding your name omitted from the list of
players who made the team? Add to that, college applications,
drug use, and bomb threats; today's teens face serious issues
every day. But there are many ways you can write about weighty
issues without increasing their burdens. If you can jump back
into those high school days while addressing the concerns of
today's teen, the challenges they face can provide endless
topics for articles, fiction, interviews, quizzes, and more.

If you've got the voice of today's teen ringing in your ears
and your finger on the pulse of current trends then you can
write for the mainstream girls markets. Topics of interest are
fashion, beauty, friendship, television, movies, gossip, and boys.

Religious publishers look for writers that can tackle heavy-
hitting issues while offering their readers hope. If you recall
the victories as clearly as the hurts and heartaches then you
can bring hope to a hurting teen by finding purpose in life's
struggles. Stories and articles should have a strong spiritual
message showing teens how to apply faith to their lives.

passions of your youth then give these markets a try.

into the future to meet today's teens.
